Product Details

Stay compliant and protect your workplace with an Asbestos Register.

This editable register helps you document the presence (or assumed presence) of asbestos at your workplace, and is a legal requirement under Australian WHS laws for all businesses operating in buildings constructed before 2004 (or before 1990 in Queensland). This applies to businesses of any size or industry who own or manage a workplace, even if there is no asbestos at the workplace.

Asbestos can be found in a variety of products and materials such as wall cladding, roof sheeting, roof tiles, lining under eaves, insulation, vinyl floor tile backing, ceramic tile underlay, wall sheeting, electricity meter boxes, cement water and stormwater pipes, gutters, ridge capping, fencing materials, brake disc pads, gaskets, paint, and sealants.

Who is it for?

This register is suitable for any Australian business or person who owns, manages, or controls a workplace in a building constructed before 2004 (or before 1990 in Queensland), across all industries — from offices, workshops, and factories to retail spaces, farms, and hospitality venues. It is also suitable for any other workplaces where asbestos is known, or assumed, to be present.

When is it used?

This register should be maintained as part of your workplace WHS management system, updated whenever asbestos is identified or assumed, and made accessible to workers, contractors, and others who may be exposed. It can also be provided to clients, tenants, or principal contractors to demonstrate your legal compliance and commitment to a safe workplace.

What’s included?

  • Ready-to-use Excel template for recording asbestos materials (identified or assumed)

  • Fields covering all key details required under WHS legislation

  • Simple, searchable layout for easy updates and reference

  • Separate sheet for Victorian businesses (to meet Victoria-specific requirements)

  • Guidance notes on how to use the register and comply with related obligations (e.g., labelling, signage, Asbestos Management Plans, naturally occurring asbestos)

Meeting your legal requirements

Under Australian WHS law, all workplaces in buildings constructed before 2004 (1990 in Queensland) must keep an Asbestos Register — even if no asbestos is present. This template helps you meet that obligation by providing a clear, compliant record to support safe management, regulatory compliance, and worker and contractor protection.
